Carly Haeck, MS, LMFTA

Carly is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate who works with couples and families. She helps couples who feel “stuck” in their patterns within the relationship find new ways of interacting with each other that promote and restore connection, empathy, and intimacy. Carly’s style has been described as “gentle yet firm”- she takes a strengths-based approach, but also believes it is important to intervene when she observes unhelpful positions and behaviors in sessions. She invites clients to take a collaborative approach when working with her, as she believes therapy is most successful when clients have an active role in setting their own goals. Some of the issues Carly works with when seeing couples and partnerships includes concerns about trust, intimacy, parenting, infidelity, sexuality, grief, preparation for marriage and life transitions.

Carly is a systemic thinker, in that she believes problems within couples and families always have circular causality as opposed to linear cause-and-effect. She believes it is also imperative to examine each client’s context, including their family of origin, to understand their position. Carly strives to be a culturally competent therapist, considering clients’ identity, sexual orientation, race, gender, ethnicity, and other aspects of diversity and intersectionality in the therapy process. Her work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy, family systems theory, Gottman Method, and Attachment-Based Family Therapy, among other approaches.

Carly completed her degree with a strong focus on sex therapy, and she intends to pursue full certification as a Sex Therapist. She works from a sex positive lens with a variety of issues and topics, including sexual dysfunction, sexual trauma, sexual enrichment, and becoming comfortable with one’s own and/or one’s partner’s sexuality. Carly is LGBTQ affirming and respects all relationship structures.
